About Counseling & Psychotherapy

Counseling and therapy take place in a special relationship where we work together to help you ease your suffering.  When I meet you for the first time, I would like to hear about your current struggles.  I will also be interested in hearing your life story, how you find meaning in your past life experiences, how you see yourself today, and what your hopes are for the future.  Later, we may delve deeper into matters, so that you resolve the pain of your past, and become more aware of your present experience and future possibilities.

My approach to therapy is broadly humanistic and includes person-centered, Gestalt, existential, and psychodynamic methods.  As a person-centered and Gestalt therapist, I am committed to understanding your concerns in an accepting and non-judgmental way, and in helping you become more aware of your here-and-now experience.  As an existential therapist, I am interested in helping you clarify and make further meaning of your experience, and obtain a wider perspective on your struggles.  As a psychodynamic therapist, I would like to help you understand the way early relationships -- i.e., those occurring in childhood -- continue to live in the present.

Therapy is a way for you to overcome limitations, have more freedom, and to feel better.  We might focus on one or two specific issues, or our therapeutic relationship may allow you to move more freely throughout all parts of your life.  Every course of therapy is uniquely tailored to your needs. The length of working time varies from client to client.
